Owl Pellet...Day 1 Observation

Sentences Have Limits!

The class observed Mrs. Delanzo work on a paragraph with run-on sentences.

Alexis, Coleman, and David construct their sentences.

Ira and Glynn tape up and compare their longgg sentences.

Getting ready to share.

This is way too long!

Polygon Scavenger Hunt

The class wrapped up Math Unit 1 with a Polygon Scavenger Hunt in Saint's Square and around the classroom.  The class, split into small groups, was given a camera and a set of items they had to locate.  The students were amazed with how much of what they had learned surrounded them in their world.

A Moment From the Week

We had a great first week of school.  In Science we learned about the human body.  We learned lots of facts about the state of Alabama.  Did you know that the state flower is the camellia?  We have a new writing teacher this year, her name is Mrs. Dalanzo.  We had our Math fact quiz, our Science test, and our Spelling test.  We're going to have a great year!

It's All About Teamwork!

Our class has been participating in meetings once a week to help prevent bullying at St. Paul's.  Each meeting focuses on how to work together and how to treat others with respect.  This week's meeting involved working together to pass objects around the line and not mess up the item.  The objects ranged from shoes, balls, tissue paper, to cupcake liners.  The students had to support each other with positive words and their elbows only!  I must say that our class succeeded in this meeting with the exception of a few bent up items.

Summer Writing Challenge

Clara Leder S. and Glynn C. were recognized at chapel for their accomplishments in writing over the summer break.  Both ladies received a certificate, pencils, and a writing journal.  Please congratulate them for their hard work.

Important Information

The school will keep you updated with information regarding the upcoming hurricane.

Also make sure you check the Important Information section on the right hand column of the blog for any test dates, upcoming activities, or items needed.

It has been a great first full week!

Picture of the Week

When we were in Science we had to jump rope to see what parts of the body was moving.

Morning Meeting

Trey was our chaplian this week.  He led our class
in the devotion during our morning meetings and led
the class in prayer before lunch.

Lewis shared the items from his bag as we learned more about him.

What Do You See Moving?

Our first topic of study in Science is the skeleton and how it functions.  As an exploratory activity, each student had to watch their partner jump rope for a minute and record every body part they observed moving in their journals.  Each student played the roll as the jumpee and the observer.  I believe giggles were also observed.

Angles Are Everywhere

We have deep into Unit 1 in Math.  The focus is on lines, angles, and polygons.  The class has enjoyed singing and dancing to the Jammin Classroom songs.  The songs we have focused on are Angles Are Everywhere, focus on right, acute and obtuse angles, Parallel and Perpendicular Lines, and Polygons.  You should ask your student to sing a refrain from the songs and show the dance moves.  I am sure you have heard them at home already as the tune stays in your head.

We spend a portion of every class in cooperative groups.

More groups hard at work.

Is a square also a rhombus or is it a rhombus is also a square?

Every class starts with homework check, mental math and a
math message.
