What We Are Learning This Week

Our Montgomery field trip is this Monday, March 4th. Please have your student at school by 5:30. We will leave at 5:45 and return around 4:30-5:00 Monday afternoon. A sack lunch and drink is needed. Snacks will be provided. Please refer to the note sent home from the office in Wednesday mail for additional information on the trip or view it on the school website.

Math:   We will start Chapter 8 this week on area and perimeter. We will test Chapter 8 on March 15th. The test will cover area, perimeter, polygons, triangles, rectangles and squares.

English: Finish helping and linking verbs
 
Reading: We will continue Unit 7 this week. The comprehension focus is setting and our visual tool is a flow chart. A study guide with process questions and pattern statement has been given. March book projects instructions have been given. The genre is mystery or adventure. Due date: Thursday, March 28th.

Writing: We will continue our Unit on short stories. Pattern Statement: trouble usually moves toward calmness. Students are to create a character with some sort of problem that character faces and explain how they go about solving that problem. This week we will have individual coaching sessions as students prepare to write their final drafts. Presentation of short stories will follow.

Science: We will start our investigations on building telegraphs. The next Unit on sound will start the following Monday. A note went home in Wednesday mail concerning a vocabulary shirt project. This project is due on Monday, March 11th.

History:  We will be writing essays on our Montgomery trip. We will start Chapter 8, The Great Depression, on Monday, March 11th.

Spelling:  Spelling Test on Friday, March 8th.  Our figurative language focus is now onomatopoeia- a word whose sound suggests its meaning. The word this week is “whoosh”.  Alabama Fact should come from fact P. 22. Classroom Words are: capitol, triumphant, and perimeter
