What We Are Learning This Week


Just a few more days until Spring Break! I know we are all looking forward to it!

Math: We will continue Chapter 9 on fractions, percents and decimals. There will be a test on lessons 9.1-9.5 on Wed. March 27th.  We will continue the rest of the chapter on multiplying and dividing decimals after Spring Break, followed by a test on Friday, April 12thThere will also be a Math Facts Quiz on Friday.
 Please help your child practice figuring percentages from decimals and fractions. A great way to review is to look at sale prices. Have your child figure out the sale price if an item is 50 percent or 25 percent off.

English: We will be working on persuasive writing. We will focus on an introduction, body, and conclusion as well as giving reasons supported with details. Within our writing we will focus on proper sentence structure, punctuation and capitalization.

Reading: We will finish our review unit this week. We will test on our book There’s an Owl in the Shower on Thursday, March 28th. The test will be comprehension questions related to the story and vocabulary matching. A vocabulary study guide has been given. We will begin Unit 8, Drawing Conclusions, after Spring Break. March book projects are due Thursday, March 28thand will be presented in class on Friday, March 29th. I will also give the instructions for the April book project before Spring Break so students can begin their reading. The genre for this book will be History or Historical Fiction. The project will be due on Tuesday, April 30th.

Writing: We will continue a unit on persuasive writing.

Science: We will experiment with sound vibrations this week.

History: We are continuing Chapter 8, The Great Depression this week. Tentative test date: Friday, April 12th.

Spelling: NO SPELLING TEST THIS WEEK.

What We Are Learning This Week

Fourth quarter is here!  Mrs. McCullough and I will be stressing responsibility and organization as well as good listening skills as we move into final preparations for 5th grade! Your support is appreciated!

ART:  Make sure you bring in your supplies for youe endangered species mask.  It is due by Friday but you can bring it in early and store it in the calssroom.

Math:  We will start Chapter 9 on fractions, percents and decimals. There will be a test on lessons 9.1-9.5 on Wed. English: Continuing Antecedents and Pronouns

Reading: Since we are studying endangered species as a cross-curricular unit, we will all be reading the book There’s an Owl in the Shower, for our next reading unit. We will take this opportunity to review previous comprehension skills and visual tools. We will begin Unit 8, Drawing Conclusions, after Spring Break. March book project instructions have been given. The genre is mystery or adventure. Due date: Thursday, March 28th.

Writing: We will start a unit on persuasive writing.

Science:  We have started a Unit on Sound. There will be a vocabulary quiz on the terms from Investigation 1 on Friday, March 22nd. The quizlet link on these terms has already been sent. Students will also need to know the properties of sound for this quiz.

History:  We are working on Chapter 8, The Great Depression, this week.

Spelling:  Spelling Test on Friday, March 22nd.  Our figurative language focus is now onomatopoeia- a word whose sound suggests its meaning. The word this week is “hiss”.  Alabama Fact should come from fact P.2 . We are starting over on our packet. The students must choose a fact they have not previously studied. Classroom Words are: rationed, endangered, discrimination, decimal

A Look At Our Week

This week on Monday we presented our Science shirts.  We had a lot of neat, creative words.  Julia Palmer had property, it means a characteristic trait, quality, or 5 senses, and for smell she put perfume all over it.  You could smell it all over the room.

What We Are Learning This Week

Thank you for all of your efforts in helping make our Montgomery trip a success! Our students received numerous compliments on their knowledge of History as well as their good behavior and manners! I am so proud!

Don't forget to bid on Teacher Adventures starting this Monday!

Math:   We will finish Chapter 8 this week on area and perimeter. We will test Chapter 8 on Friday,  March 15th. The test will cover area, perimeter, polygons, triangles, rectangles and squares. There will also be a Math Facts Quiz on Friday.

English: Pronouns and Antecedents

Reading: We will finish Unit 7 this week.  A study guide with process questions and pattern statement has been given. Unit 7 test will be Thursday, March 14th. I will also check Specs logs on Thursday.   March book project instructions have been given. The genre is mystery or adventure. Due date: Thursday, March 28th.

Writing: Finishing our presentations of short stories. We will then start a unit on persuasive writing.

Science: Vocabulary shirts are due on Monday. We will also begin our Sound unit this week.  We will begin our new vocabulary terms as well.  Be on the lookout for quizlet links being emailed soon.

History:  We will start Chapter 8, The Great Depression, on Monday, March 11th.

This week we went to Montgomery.  We had a lot of fun.  We visited the capitol building and Archives building.  Also, we went to Old Alabama Town.  Also, we went to gift shops.  One in the capitol building and one in Old Alabama Town.
