This Week in Class

This is a normal week. 

Spelling:
Classroom Words- hundredth, survey, interest
Simile- "flat as a pancake"  means completely flat

Math:
Continuing Unit 4 on decimals
3 Minute Fact Quiz on Friday

Science:
Starting Investigation 4- Coordination
Learning the final vocabulary terms
Quiz on the terms this Friday

Social Studies:
Continuing in the chapter
Make sure you memorize

Reading:
Book in a series memory bag project due Wednesday
Continuing Cause and Effect

Writing:
Finishing the final draft of the comparison paper

Measurements

Mrs. Brown came up with an activity to help the students practice measuring to the nearest inch and centimeter.  Students had to measure how high they could jump vertically and how far in long jump. Frisbees were also used to see how far the class could toss.  Leaf tracings allowed the students to measure the leaves.

The class this week had to construct a working thumb model.  By pulling on the string, the class was able to see how tendons work.   Picture by William M.

Nouns Video

The last Parts of Speech video has been completed.  I will try to put them all into a single video and share with you soon.  We had a blast making these.  I hope the videos have helped you better understand nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs.

October book report is a memory bag on a book in a series.  Directions have already been sent home.

History:
Beginning Chapter 3- "Alabama- State and Territory"
Declaration paragraph assignment will be given on Monday.  Paragraph will be recited from memory on Monday, October 29th.

We just finished the Main Idea unit in Reading so we did intellectual art.

Ira built a leg model with wood, rubber bands, and paper clips.

David B. played the piano in music.

Lewis likes to read a whole lot, especially animal books.

We went to Mrs. Wharton's room for flocabulary.

Lilly was writing in her journal when she was really frightened.

Our Mentors

Meet the mentors Holly and Shelly. 
We have another one but he was in class.

Blog Writer

When we saw our mentors we talked about smoking, drinking, and texting while driving is bad.  We all drew pictures.  Some of the sayings were "Budweiser's not your supervisor" , "Bud light is not all right,"  "Smoke is no joke"!

We also had OLSATs on Friday.  It wasn't fun.  It was very long.  We had 72 questions.  It took 40 minutes.

What We Are Learning This Week

There is OLSAT testing all this week.
NO SPELLING, TESTS, OR NIGHTLY HOMEWORK!!!!!

Math:
Finishing Chapter 3.  We will be giving out a study guide to work on during the week.  We will review the study guide on Friday.
3 Minute Math Facts Quizzes have started.  I am proud of the scores!
Chapter 3 math test next Monday, October 22!

Reading:
Project due October 31.
Still working on current unit, cause and effect

Science:
Continue to review muscles.
We will not be focusing on Science due to the OLSAT.

History:
Continuing on with current chapter.
The Indian Regions projects looked great!

Grammar:
We are going to try to make our Parts of Speech Videos this week. 
Focus is on subject-verb agreement.


There is no school on October 24 for parent-teacher conferences.
